My new passion
Recently I discovered a new creative art, Precious Metal Clay (PMC). In this medium, you work with a claylike material, shape it, form it, and then dry it out. After it is thoroughly dry, you fire it either in a kiln or with a hand-held torch.
I’ve taken three classes and I am hooked!
Here is a piece I did at home, using a torch for the final firing. This piece in real life, is ¾” x ¾” square. This scan actually shows the pattern detail on the stars better than you can see in real life! I am probably going to apply liver of sulfur, which will darken and patina the piece, then re-shine the raised parts.

Enjoy!

that is really gorgeous....
how cool!
you can do it with a torch? HOW COOL IS THAT!?! I've been putting off buying any of that cause I don't have my kiln here in TX.
Thank you all for the kind words. This is very much a beginner piece. I hope to get even btter!
I indeed used a creme brulee type butane torch. And 10 minutes firing time. Wonderful directions are here: http://www.silver-clay.com/firing.htm
Come join the addiction!
I have seen this craft on tv, and would love to see it in person. It looks really awesome.
I suppose someday I could do a demo at my house, it's not very easy to do at B&N. It can get quite messy.
Oh, and it's addictive! >-)
And I will wear this piece Monday to Stitching.
That's awesome, Martha!!! Very pretty.
Martha, I think it would be awesome to see a demo. Like I said, I saw it on tv and it looked very interesting. A bit too $$ for me, but ah well. I am gonna really try and make it to Denny's next week. Can you bring your finished piece with you?
